On behalf of the Organizing Committee and ECCI Board, we would like to invite you to the fourth meeting of the European Congenital CMV Initiative (ECCI) to be held in AthensGreece in October 20-21st, 2022.

ECCI is a broad network of experts working on congenital cytomegalovirus (CMV) across Europe. The aim of the initiative is to increase public awareness and promote congenital CMV on the European research agenda. The goal of the ECCI meeting is to promote collaborative research, discuss available evidence, identify research gaps that should be filled to support evidence-based health policies and prioritize the development of much needed prevention and intervention programs. Research teams from all over Europe have the opportunity to share and discuss their results within our community through both oral presentations and poster viewing. ECCI meetings are held every two years and gather more than 150 participants, including obstetricians, pediatricians, virologists, immunologists, epidemiologists, and members of industry.

The ECCI 2022 Scientific Committee is preparing an inspiring Program for this event covering all aspects of epidemiology and burden of disease, diagnosis of maternal, fetal and neonatal infection, prevention of maternal infection and vertical transmission, as well as treatment and prognosis of fetal and pediatric infection. Recent developments in prophylactic and therapeutic interventions will be discussed. The clinical research capacity in Europe will be mapped and the recent development of a European clinical cCMV registry will be presented. The Meeting will include all of its “classical” features, such as keynote lectures, oral presentations and poster sessions. Furthermore, state-of-the-art laboratory and clinical advances from leading companies are expected to be presented in industry-sponsored symposia.

Athens, as the host city for the ECCI 2022 Meeting is an excellent choice since it combines natural beauty, cultural wealth and an array of up-to-date infrastructures that not only guarantee organizational efficiency but also promise a highly refreshing and pleasurable experience for all participants. As the restrictions due to COVID-19 pandemic are relaxed we are excited to have you in person in Athens, in October, in a venue 5-10 minute walking distance from Acropolis. However, understanding that few colleagues might choose to remotely participate, the conference is held in a hybrid format.
